Our Mission

At Kelleher Literacy and Language, we are dedicated to transforming lives through literacy. Serving the Seacoast New Hampshire region, our specialized instruction targets children, adolescents, and adults with dyslexia and language-based learning differences, fostering confidence and measurable progress in reading and comprehension.

Early in my career, while teaching English language learners in Nashville, I worked with a fifth grader who was difficult and needy, and who had become known mainly for her behavior — but I loved her. She had been in U.S. schools for years, and no one on her team, including me, had the training to address what was actually going on: both her limited English proficiency and, as I came to believe, undiagnosed dyslexia. I tried everything I had been trained to do, and none of it was enough. I left that school still worrying about her, and I have never stopped.

That experience changed the direction of my career. A master's degree in Reading and Language was a start, but it wasn't enough on its own — so I kept going, pursuing certification after certification until I felt genuinely equipped to help a student like her, should one ever cross my path again. That training has made a real difference for the students I've worked with since, including many with language-based learning differences. I never want to stand in front of a struggling reader without the tools to help.

Background and training

I'm Betsy Kelleher-Horne, a literacy and language specialist with more than 16 years of experience working with students from kindergarten through adulthood. I bring extensive district-level leadership experience in New Hampshire public schools, along with two graduate degrees: a Master of Education in Reading and Language from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Education in TESOL from Boston University, as well as a New Hampshire licensure as a Reading and Writing Specialist.

Specialized Credentials

Orton-Gillingham Associate Certified (AOGPE) — completed through a rigorous 100-hour supervised practicum; Clinical-level coursework currently in progress
Wilson Dyslexia Therapist (W.D.T.) — Wilson Reading System Level 2 Certified, the highest credential available through Wilson Language Training, recognized by the International Dyslexia Association as an Accreditation Plus program; also trained in Wilson's Just Words program
Lindamood-Bell trained in both LiPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing) and Visualizing & Verbalizing (V&V)
LETRS trained — Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling, completed through New Hampshire state training
Member, International Dyslexia Association
